This 20-22 acre piece of land on the Yamuna floodplains, adjoining the Commonwealth Games Village, was earmarked as an urban green space to be developed by the DDA. Mr V P Rao formed a society with eight members (the minimum required to register a society), some from the Village, and others from various parts of Delhi-NCR."THE WOODS" was thus born in February 2019.
This place used to be a dumping site of debris from Construction and Demolition in the adjoining area. After removal of plastic during numerous sanitation drives the area was made fit for plantations. Today, THE WOODS is a forest with over 100 species of trees, plants & shrubs. It plays host to more than 50 species of birds (many of them migratory), 45 species of butterflies, and various types of spiders, beetles, and mantis, which are all indicators of a healthy ecosystem.
The society under the leadership of Shri Pratyush Sinha IAS, Former CVC, Govt Of India organized a number of sanitation and plantation drives. The water leakage leading to the formation of the cesspool of larve was harvested for watering the saplings.
